Summing it All Up

The stigma due to aging is a serious issue that should not be ignored. Senior individuals in Canada make a significant percent of the population today. Both normal and mentally handicapped senior individuals experience stigma due to aging.

Addressing the societal issues faced by senior individuals is as important as addressing the problems of sexism and racism in the country. Some of the efforts mentioned here include increasing awareness about ageism through media channels, addressing stigma faced by elders through a national health policy, and reserving a day celebrating the lives of senior individuals.

And I believe the effort starts with all of us. We should raise awareness about the stigma senior individuals face in the society.

Consider telling our children or siblings about the importance of respecting senior individuals. Explain to them about the natural process of aging and how it affects older people psychologically and physically.

It is said that a river cuts through mountains not because of its power, but through persistence.

I believe we can be that river and our collective efforts will help in making a deep impact on the society benefiting us all.  Addressing the issues faced by senior individuals will pave way for a brighter and prosperous future for everyone.
